Hotel and non-hotel establishments in the province of Santa Cruz de Tenerife that are members of Ashotel have already reached a level of 78% of reservations for this Christmas holiday period (19 December to 8 January), according to the internal survey carried out by the hotel association by way of its Tourism Competitiveness and Sustainability Observatory.

It is expected that these numbers that constitute paid bookings and not just occupancy expectations will increase as the holiday period draws near. In general, the islands of La Palma (78.8%) and Tenerife (78.3%) exceed the average for the entire province, while the island of La Gomera also recorded a good level of bookings (74.4%) and El Hierro continues the trend of recent surveys, with lower figures (24.4%), but which can be explained by last-minute bookings, which always raise this percentage considerably.

FORECASTS
The survey carried out by Ashotel for Christmas 2019 placed the forecasts – but not bookings – for occupancy in Tenerife at 88%, while in La Palma the forecast was 85%, in La Gomera 89% and in El Hierro 65%. In this year’s survey, 55% of the responses received stated that the Christmas season would be better than in 2019, compared to 32% who thought it would be the same and 12% who thought it would be worse.

In the period analysed, the week that records the best data is the one between 26 December and 1 January, with an average of 85%, while the previous week closes with an average of 75% and the last one, already in January, with 74%.

Meanwhile, by areas of Tenerife, the South has the highest rate of bookings to date, with 80.5%, while the North has 75.1% of its accommodation capacity for the Christmas season and in the metropolitan area bookings are currently at 50.3%.

The president of Ashotel, Jorge Marichal, alongside its manager, Juan Pablo González, presented these results on 14 December, a meeting in which both highlighted the consolidation of the tendency of tourism recovery that began at Easter this year.
