The municipality of Santa Cruz will host the twenty-eighth edition of the Ports of Tenerife Christmas Concert, which, for the first time in its history, will be broadcast live throughout Spain.
On this occasion, the show will feature a programme made up of three main works which, in the opinion of the Tenerife Council’s Director of Culture, Alejandro Krawietz, “constitute the centre of the classical music canon, making this year’s offer a monumental one”.
Georg Friedrich Händel’s “Messiah”, “Melody” by the Ukrainian Myroslav Skory – as a tribute to Ukraine – and the fourth movement of Symphony No. 9, “Chorale”, – popularly known as the “Ode to Joy” – by Ludwig Van Beethoven will be the pieces presented by the Tenerife Symphony Orchestra.
A concert of this type, as the President of the Insular Council of Tenerife, Pedro Martín, pointed out, “offers many opportunities, such as bringing classical music closer to the citizens, the connection between the population and the Symphony Orchestra and overcoming the frontiers that exist between the port and the city”.
Furthermore, with regard to the charity nature of the concert on this occasion, there are also new features: in addition to the contribution that the DISA Foundation has been making since 2013, tickets will have a symbolic price of three euros, which will be donated by each user to one of three social organisations.
These include Naves de Esperanza, an organisation that works to bring basic and essential surgery to people living in developing countries with two hospital ships, Stella Maris-Apostolado del Mar, an international organisation of the Catholic Church for the comprehensive care of seafarers and their families, and Mensajeros de la Paz, for their project Centro Social Integral de Añaza, a vital and necessary resource in the area through which support is provided to families helping to cover their food needs, among others.
