The Ports of Tenerife close 2022 with 6.2 million passengers

With over 6 million passengers, the ports of the province of Santa Cruz de Tenerife among the leaders on the national levels.

The Port Authority of Santa Cruz de Tenerife closed the year 2022 as the second in the country in terms of passenger traffic. The 6,264,726 registered, with an associated increase of 35%, ratify the ports of the province of Santa Cruz de Tenerife among the national leaders in this traffic, only surpassed by the Port Authority of the Balearic Islands.


Of this total, 5.1 million correspond to transport passengers, that is, users of the regular passenger lines that link the islands, a speciality that increased by 23.08 percent with respect to 2021. For its part, the number of cruise passengers, with 800,000, places the Port Authority among the five in the country that experienced the greatest growth in this modality last year.

With regard to the port of Santa Cruz de Tenerife, a total of 2,269,367 passengers passed through the installation in 2022, 60% more than in 2021, corresponding in turn to 1.6 million passengers under the transport regime and 542,290 cruise passengers, triple the number registered in 2021.

After the port of Santa Cruz de Tenerife, the port of La Gomera is the one which registered the highest number of passengers in transport regime by moving 1,193,500 passengers, 294,000 more than the previous year.

Freight traffic also experienced positive highlights in the port of Santa Cruz de Tenerife with 10.5 million tonnes of total traffic moved from January to December, 1.2 million more than in 2021, and consequently 13.07 percent more.

Within this section, both general cargo improved their figures, with almost six million tonnes moved, as well as liquid bulk with 3.5 million tonnes and an increase of 22 percent, and supplies, both water and fuel, with 541 tonnes delivered and a percentage increase of 36 percent over the previous year.
