According to the flight search engine Skyscanner, the number of searches for flights to the main Spanish tourist destinations during the weeks of Carnivals has multiplied, almost tripling in some destinations very involved in these festive celebrations, such as Tenerife, for example.
The platform has detected an increase in the number of bookings coinciding with the main Carnival celebrations in Spain. The number of searches for traditional carnival destinations such as Tenerife and Gran Canaria has particularly increased.
The fact is that the most famous carnivals that can be enjoyed in Spain take place in the Canary Islands. In fact, the Carnival of Santa Cruz de Tenerife has been declared the second most important in the world, only behind the Carnival of Rio de Janeiro in Brazil.
So, flight searches for Tenerife’s airports for the dates of its Carnival represent an increase of 16% compared to previous weeks, with the increase in searches from Valencia (190%) and Barcelona (128%) being particularly noteworthy.
Tourists from Madrid have also searched for Tenerife to enjoy Carnival, 38% more than in previous weeks, while interest has increased by 55% from Santiago de Compostela and 6% from Seville.
Tourists from Germany (+28%) and France (+45%) have also significantly increased their searches in this period coinciding with Carnival.

And in another part of the ‘fortunate islands’ as the Canary Islands are known to be called, the Carnival of Las Palmas de Gran Canaria stands out thanks to the Gala for the Election of the Carnival Queen and Drag Queen, as these are the real highlights of the festivities. The “murgas” (singing groups) and “comparsas” (dancing groups) fill the streets to the rhythm of drumming “batucada”.
For this destination, the international tourists who have made the most searches for flights to Las Palmas airport for this period are the United Kingdom, with an increase of 63% in searches compared to the previous week, France with an increase of 58% and Italy, which increased its searches by 40% compared to the previous week.
In terms of domestic flights, there has been a 24% increase in searches for flights to Las Palmas de Gran Canaria airport. By cities, Barcelona (+26%), Santiago de Compostela (+19%), Madrid and Malaga (+9% both) are the cities of origin with the highest increase in searches for these Carnival dates compared to the previous week.
