The GastroCanarias 2023 Fair (Tenerife) will take place in May

The Exhibition Centre of Santa Cruz de Tenerife will once again host this year's event, which will feature new competitions and hopes to surpass the record attendance it achieved in 2022.

The most important trade fair for the Gastronomy, Hotel and Catering sector in the Canary Islands will be held from 23rd to 25th May at the Exhibition Centre of Santa Cruz de Tenerife. In its eighth edition, the Canary Islands Gastronomy Salon – GastroCanarias 2023 will have a record number of stands and cooking and drinks contests. In a move to connect with consumer trends and promote excellence in the hotel and catering industry, the salon is adding two new cooking and drinks competitions. In addition, the learning section will be a meeting point with influential national and local chefs through the workshops for professionals in the “Aula Makro” and the activities for culinary students offered by the “Aula GastroCanarias-Hecansa”.

The official “Guest Island” this year will be Fuerteventura, which will allow the public to get to know the island’s typical products, emblematic recipes and professionals in greater depth. It is also worth highlighting the regional vocation of the fair, which for the third consecutive year will have the participation of each of the seven islands with their own stands promoted by their respective island councils.

Occupying a total surface area of some 14,000 m², the 8th Canary Islands Gastronomy Salon – GastroCanarias 2023 aims to surpass the record of last year’s edition, when it reached 215 stands. There will also be two large stages, one sponsored by the Island Counciul of Tenerife, where the cooking competitions will take place, and the other by Heineken, where the drinks competitions will be held and an intense programme of activities will be offered, including cooking workshops, master classes, chef demonstrations (show-cooking) and presentations, tastings and product tastings. Attendees will also be able to take part in hundreds of activities that will take place during the show, promoted by the different institutional stands and exhibitor companies.

During the course of the Canary Islands Gastronomy Salon, 12 major championships will be held, of which seven in the cooking category and five in the drinks category and a participation from all the islands is expected. Among these, there is a novelty as the 1st Absolute Canary Islands Tapas Championship – Makro Grand Prix has been introduced. This popular appetizer, which has become a hallmark of Spanish gastronomy, is becoming increasingly popular in the Canary Islands region.

As for drinks events, the novelty will be the 1st Canary Islands Championship of Classic Non-Alcoholic Cocktails. This type of cocktail making maintains the classic essence in its preparations and presentations, offering a version of the classic cocktail ideal for getting out of the routine and enjoying new experiences at any time of the day and in any situation.

The registration period for the different championships will open on the 6th of March and will remain open until the 31st of March on the GastroCanarias and Canary Islands Gastronomy Salon websites. More than 150 finalists are expected to take part in the different competitions for professionals and students.
