Canary Islands airports have once more surpassed pre-pandemic levels of passengers

Canary Islands airports have registered more than 3.8 million passengers in February, surpassing the pre-pandemic numbers.

The Canary Islands airports concluded the month of February with 3,873,985 passengers, thus surpassing the figures for the same month in 2019, a pre-pandemic year, by 8 %, while also representing an increase of 27.9 % with respect to the numbers for February 2022.


In February 2023, 33,776 aircraft movements were dealt with, which is 3.9 % more than in 2019 and 17.2 % more than in 2022. In addition, 2,353 tonnes of cargo were processed, representing a recovery of 87.8 % compared to the same month in 2019 and 84 % compared to February 2022.

Of the total number of passengers registered in February, 3,813,702 were passengers on commercial flights, of which 2,451,351 travelled on international flights, an increase of 4.7 % compared to February 2019 and 29.9 % compared to February 2022, and 1,362,351 travelled on domestic flights, 12.1 % more than before the pandemic and 23.9 % more than last year.

Gran Canaria Airport recorded the highest number of passengers in this second month of the year with 1,162,836, which represents an increase of 3.3 % over February 2019, as well as an increase of 30.7 % compared to February last year.

They are followed by Tenerife South Airport, which with 1,055,210 passengers posts an increase of 10.7 % over 2019 and 28 % over 2022; César Manrique-Lanzarote, with 622,198, (+12.7% and +26%, respectively); Fuerteventura, with 476,996 (+11.1% and +28%); Tenerife Norte-Ciudad de La Laguna, with 428. 198 (+9.3% and +20.1%); La Palma, with 102,690 (-7.5% and +48%), El Hierro, with 19,081 (+7% and +12.7%) and La Gomera, with 6,776 passengers, an increase of 51.6 % over the same month in 2019 and 28.8 % more than the passengers reached in February 2022.
