Canary Islands launches the La Palma Tourist Vouchers programme to attract tourism

The Canary Islands have started the registration period for residents in Spain to participate in a new edition of the La Palma Tourist Vouchers programme, which aims to attract tourists, both national and regional, and to revive the local economy.

The Regional Ministry of Tourism, Industry and Trade of the Government of the Canary Islands, through the public company the Canary Islands Tourism, has opened the registration period for residents in Spain to participate in a new edition of the La Palma Tourist Vouchers programme, which aims to attract tourists, both national and regional, and to revive the local economy.

In this edition 8,000 cards of 250 euros each will be launched, a total of 2 million euros, as reported by the regional Ministry of Tourism, which points out that it will be on April 24 when the first draw will be held before a notary in which residents in Spain over 18 years old will be eligible for 4,000 bonds and a month later, on May 24, the second draw will take place.

There are currently 187 registered companies, of which 180 are repeating from last year, representing 88 percent of the total, while a further 13 have expressed their willingness to take part in the programme again and are currently only waiting to make their participation official. There are also seven new businesses that have joined the initiative in just two weeks.

The “high” rate of repetition from the private sector, they say, “confirms the acceptance and success” of this initiative, as last year 12,000 cards were spent, injecting 3 million euros directly into the business fabric of La Palma, an amount to which was added the additional disbursement contributed by each winner and their companions.

For this year, the Canary Islands Tourism is reactivating the measure that “benefits the whole economy of La Palma”, as this programme involves accommodation, restaurants, cafés and active tourism and whale-watching companies, which means a wide range of complementary activities that make the programme’s pull effect reach all sectors.

To join this action, businesses in the sector in La Palma have been able to do so since 27 March on the website, a prerequisite to benefit from the 8,000 tourist vouchers.

Businesses must be located on La Palma and registered in the General Tourist Register, and it is essential to have a physical POS terminal so that beneficiaries can use the 250 euros by paying directly at the establishment.

As for the citizens eligible for this voucher, registration is open to all Spanish residents over the age of 18, including last year’s winners. Once they have registered on the website www.bonolapalma.com they will automatically participate in the second draw if they do not win in the first.

Turismo de Canarias will contact the winners by email, and the results will also be available on the website, and the beneficiaries will have until 31 December this year to enjoy the prize from the moment of notification.

The 250 euros will consist of a virtual prepaid Visa card that can be used in all companies based in La Palma and which are registered in the General Tourist Register in the categories of accommodation, catering, tourist activity companies, active tourism and whale watching, as long as they have previously joined the programme.

To resolve any doubts that may arise during the process, Canary Islands Tourism has set up the La Palma Voucher Service, with the telephone number 828008002, which can be reached from Monday to Saturday from 9:00 am to 5:00 pm (Canary Islands time), as well as an e-mail address.
