Tenerife opens to traffic the tunnel that connects the La Esperanza road with the TF-5

As of today, Thursday 4 May, this tunnel connects the TF-24 with the TF-5 in the direction of Santa Cruz de Tenerife, without having to go through the Padre Anchieta roundabout.

The Island Council of Tenerife, through its Roads Department, has completed work on the undergrounding of the TF-24. This new branch road, which opened to traffic today, Tuesday 4 May, connects the La Esperanza road with the TF-5 towards Santa Cruz de Tenerife without having to go through the Padre Anchieta roundabout, and will speed up traffic at a point with a large number of vehicles.

Specifically, it is a 120-metre-long detour, 40 metres of which run through the tunnel. This junction will help to relieve traffic at the Padre Anchieta roundabout by preventing around 3,500 vehicles from arriving there every day on the TF-24 in order to join the TF-5. In addition, this also increases the safety of pedestrians and drivers on this route.

The work, which was awarded in July 2021, has a budget of almost 7.9 million euros. During its execution, 61,953 cubic metres of rubble have been extracted and 1,590 linear metres of permanent anchorages have been installed with state-of-the-art safety installations.
