Santa Blues de Tenerife Festival (SBT) returns to the capital of Tenerife, in its 19th edition, on May 19 and 20 with two concerts and five bands, highlighted by the participation of North American artists, Astrid Arthur and Bruce ‘Mississippi’ Johnson.
Both concerts, as a part of the Santa Cruz May Festival, will be held on the stage that the City Council installs in the Plaza de la Candelaria starting at 9:00 p.m. on the dates indicated, with the sponsorship of the City Council of Santa Cruz de Tenerife and its Autonomous Organization for Culture and the Government of the Canary Islands through its Ministry of Tourism, Industry and Commerce, the Canarian Institute for Cultural Development (ICDC) and the European Regional Development Fund.
The SBT, as it happened last year, leaves its usual surroundings of the surroundings of the Noria -where the first 15 years were celebrated- and goes forward again to the month of May, when we had been accustomed to June since its second edition. As always, access to these events will be free of charge for the wide spectrum of public of all ages that has fostered their establishment, under the production of Makaron Gestión y Proyectos Culturales.
The first blues encounter with the Tenerife public will be on Friday, May 19, with the Valencian Maho Blues Band in a ‘power trio’ format, in charge of inaugurating this 19th edition starting at 9:00 p.m., preceding the quintet led by the stellar voice of the American Astrid Arthur, a diva of gospel, soul and ‘black music’ from Georgia, with several Grammys in her long artistic career (one of them for an album recorded with Whitney Houston’s mother.
The second musical evening of the SBT starts at the same time on Saturday, the 20th, and will be led by Bruce ‘Mississippi’ Johnson & The Blues Criminals, a quintet with the genuine ‘bluesero’ label from the United States that will close the concert after the performance of two local bands and the stellar brilliance of a current benchmark of the traditional genre of the legendary North American river basin.
