The State Meteorological Agency (Aemet) has issued a yellow warning (risk) for Tenerife, Gran Canaria, and Fuerteventura in response to an upcoming heat episode in the Canary Islands, where temperatures are expected to reach up to 36 degrees. The information was communicated via the agency’s website.
On Sunday, 30 July, the yellow warning will be in effect from eleven o’clock in the morning for the east, south, and west of Gran Canaria, with maximum temperatures possibly reaching 34 degrees. This situation will mainly impact the midlands and inland areas towards the south of the island.
Continuing on Monday, 31 July, the yellow warning will be in place in Gran Canaria, with forecasts indicating maximum temperatures of up to 36 degrees. Furthermore, the warning will extend to Fuerteventura, as well as to the east, south, and west of Tenerife, particularly affecting the midland areas and the southern interior of both islands.
In response to this new heat episode, the Canary Islands Regional Ministry of Health has issued warnings under the Plan of Preventive Actions for the Effects of Excess Temperatures on Health for several municipalities in Gran Canaria. As a result, a red warning (high risk) has been declared from 31 July to 1 August in Agüimes, and from 30 to 31 July and 1 August in Mogán, San Bartolomé de Tirajana, Santa Lucía de Tirajana, and Tejeda.
