HiperDino, a prominent leader in the food sector and the exclusive local chain in the Canary Islands, maintains its reliance on the island of El Hierro‘s farmers and producers to supply tropical pineapples in its stores.
Presently operating 239 supermarkets, the chain procures an average annual quantity of 100,000 kg of these fruits from two producer companies, firmly committing to local or “Km 0” products cultivated on the islands. This approach contributes to the sustainability of the primary sector within the Canary Islands.
For an El Hierro farmer, cultivating one hectare of tropical pineapples incurs an approximate cost of 35,000 euros, considering a planting density of 40,000 plants. Furthermore, the process requires around 18 months until the first harvest can be collected.
