The Canary Islands‘ airports, under the umbrella of the Aena network, are preparing for a comprehensive total of 5,700 flights over the upcoming extended weekend in August. This span, from Friday, August 11th, to the public holiday on Tuesday, August 15th, will see 1,181 more flights than the previous year, as last year’s long weekend was shortened by a day due to August 15th falling on a Monday. On Monday, specifically, there are scheduled to be 1,144 flights across the islands.

Breaking down Aena’s flight projections for these five days, 3,684 flights are projected to be domestic, while 2,016 are slated to be international flights, according to flight forecast data shared by the airport management with Europa Press.

For the remaining days of the holiday weekend, the planned operations include 1,120 on Friday, 1,194 on Saturday, 1,160 on Sunday, 1,144 on Monday, and 1,082 on Tuesday.

OVER 32,000 FLIGHTS IN AIRPORTS ACROSS SPAIN

Nationwide, across all Aena network airports, a total of 32,148 flights are scheduled during this extended weekend from August 11th to August 15th. These dates coincide with the “departure operation” for the latter half of August, as indicated by data shared by the airport operator.

This figure showcases a 26.4% increase compared to flights operated during the same dates the previous year and a 22.3% rise compared to those of 2019. This increase stems from the fact that this year’s calendar adds one extra day to the duration of this extended weekend.

The peak day for scheduled operations is set to be Saturday with 6,637 flights, followed by Friday with 6,533 and Sunday with 6,508. Monday anticipates 6,308 operations, and Tuesday holds another 6,162.

Adolfo Suárez Madrid-Barajas Airport leads the schedule with a total of 5,146 flights, with 1,068 set for this Friday. Palma de Mallorca Airport follows with 4,682 scheduled flights, and Josep Tarradellas Barcelona-El Prat Airport expects 4,630 operations. Malaga-Costa del Sol Airport has 2,576 scheduled flights, while Ibiza Airport estimates 1,932 operations.
