The ninth edition of the International Agatha Christie Festival, dedicated to honoring the renowned British writer (1890-1976) during her visit to Puerto de la Cruz, kicks off tomorrow and runs until the November 19th. This engaging event, orchestrated by the Centre for Initiatives and Tourism (CIT) in the city, boasts an extensive program comprising over 60 activities. It represents an initiative aimed at fortifying the municipality’s tourist standing by emphasizing unique qualities like culture and history.
In this regard, the festival continues to host esteemed individuals who share a connection with Agatha Christie’s work and the mystery genre. On an international level, the festival will welcome luminaries like Doctor John Curran, a biographer of the writer, Doctor Mark Aldridge, a historian specializing in the world of Agatha Christie, renowned English author Andrew Wilson, who recently set one of his works in Puerto de la Cruz, and Mr. Matt Newbury, Director of the Agatha Christie Festival in Torquay, the author’s hometown, along with Jana Ohnesorg, President of the writer’s fan club in the Czech Republic.
At the national level, the festival will count with the presence of Juan Cruz Ruiz, José Luis Correa, Javier Rivero Grandoso, Eduardo García Rojas, and Miguel Aguerralde, who will pay a heartfelt tribute to our recently departed crime writer, Alexis Ravelo.

The Agatha Christie Festival: more than 60 activities over nine days
During this festival, there will be enriching conferences by experts, screenings of Agatha Christie’s works in their original versions, concerts, exhibitions, guided tours, dramatized routes, workshops, gastronomic events, tastings, and numerous other offerings suitable for all audiences.
This is a truly inclusive festival with active participation from the municipality’s cultural stakeholders. It has been extended to encompass the entire educational community, including activities in public primary and secondary schools. A new addition this year is the collaboration with the National Reference Centre for Gardening in Los Realejos for an artistic floral intervention in the city centre, as well as the active involvement of the Training Plans for Employment.
