Today’s weather in the Canary Islands: rain and thunderstorms

Temperatures are expected to drop in the Canary Islands, reaching a high of 26 degrees Celsius.


Warnings for rain, potential storms persist across the Canary Islands on weather forecast. State Meteorological Agency (Aemet) describes the day as cloudy in proliferate especially in the afternoon with chances of some showers. These showers mostly occur in the morning and may be very heavy but with some local lightening.


Thermally, the midlands and highland areas will experience a reduction in temperatures. La Gomera will experience high temperatures of 26 degrees, while El Hierro will record lows of 15 degrees. In the morning, the prevailing wind will be westerly before it turns to north-east.

Cloudy skies will dominate in Gran Canaria with the biggest chance and intensity of precipitation – predominantly light- recorded during the first half of the day in southern and western parts. The showers can be associated with an in interference of thunderstorms.

As for Lanzarote and Fuerteventura, this same cloud will produce rain also in the first hours of the day. However, the holiday to transfers into a clear sky from afternoon as precipitation decrease.

The northern half of the islands will experience a slight to modest decrease in maximum temperatures and the minimum temperatures will rise slightly while elsewhere remaining relatively stable. Las Palmas de Gran Canaria expects a maximum temperature of about 25ºC and minimum of approximately 20ºC.

As for the wind, it will mostly be from the south-west and experience high speeds at higher altitudes during morning hours. This will see the winds ease to light westerlies and later northerly by end of day.
