List of flights to the Canary Islands cancelled amidst Iberia strike

Passengers impacted by the cancelled flights in the Canary Islands on the specified dates are entitled to request a change of date or a full refund.

Iberia, along with its affiliates Iberia Express and Air Nostrum, has been compelled to cancel 444 flights slated from 5 to 8 January amid a strike by its handling personnel. This industrial action is anticipated to affect approximately 45,641 passengers, with numerous services to and from the Canary Islands facing disruption.

This period, coinciding with the Epiphany holiday and a common time for many to travel back to their homes or workplaces, sees Iberia cancelling 270 flights, Iberia Express 64, and Air Nostrum 110.

The strike, orchestrated by the unions CCOO, UGT, and USO, is a response to the loss of Iberia’s handling contracts at several significant airports, following decisions made by Aena in September, coupled with stalled negotiations on auto handling.

Despite the strike, Iberia plans to maintain operations for 836 of its 1,106 scheduled flights, about 76% of its total operations. The airline’s priority is to ensure the majority of its long-haul services (including those by LEVEL) and to sustain as many short and medium-haul flights as feasible.

Compensation for Iberia Affected Passengers in the Canary Islands

Passengers impacted by the cancellations have options. Iberia is offering relocations on alternative flights. Those whose flights are cancelled during the specified days can opt for a date change or a full refund. Passengers on flights not directly hit by the strike have the option to alter their travel dates or request a voucher.

Modifications can be processed via Iberia’s website, travel agencies, or through the Customer Service Centre, though wait times may be longer than usual. Iberia advises all passengers to check in online in advance and to arrive at the airport earlier than usual during the strike period.
