Positioned near the towering Mapfre building, a drakar – a type of assault ship historically used by Vikings – stands majestically, capturing attention with its distinctive profile and vibrant colors. This has sparked curiosity and questions among the public. Some wonder if it’s a part of the Carnival celebrations, or perhaps a prop for a TV series or movie being filmed on the island.
However, the reality is much more simpler. The Viking ship, typically used for excursions in the southern part of the island, is currently in Santa Cruz for maintenance and repair. These operations are being conducted in the port of Santa Cruz de Tenerife, a prominent national hub for such maritime work. The ship’s striking appearance in this setting is simply a result of its routine upkeep, rather than any cultural or entertainment event.
