Weather alerts for the Canary Islands: a week commencing with the return of rain

In the Canary Islands, the rain will mix with the calima, creating a unique atmospheric condition.

The Canary Islands are set to experience a return of rain, as forecasted by the State Meteorological Agency (Aemet). Monday morning will start with lightly cloudy skies and high cloudiness, shifting towards intervals of medium and high clouds across the archipelago as the day progresses. There’s a likelihood of light, sporadic showers, particularly on the western islands.

In the eastern province, a light haze is expected, and temperatures will remain relatively stable, except for slight to moderate increases in the highs on the eastern islands and the northern slopes of the western islands.

Winds will be light to moderate from the south, intensifying as the day goes on. In the midlands and summits, stronger southwest winds are expected, with very strong gusts possible by day’s end in La Palma and Tenerife, and not ruled out on the summits of El Hierro and La Gomera.

At sea, expect variable winds, primarily from the south, ranging from force 1 to 4, with a north-westerly swell of 1 to 2 metres.
