La Gomera has earned a nomination for the title of best natural destination in Spain in the II Edition of the National Geographic Travel Reader’s Awards. This recognition places the island among the top five contenders in this category, lauding its natural beauty encompassing terraced landscapes, geological wonders, laurel forests, and a rich cultural heritage that thrives in its traditions.
The President of the Cabildo, Casimiro Curbelo, expressed his delight over this nomination, emphasizing how it highlights the island’s qualities and solidifies its status as a leading sustainable destination. He credited various initiatives undertaken in the Sustainable Destination Plan: La Gomera, Isla Circular, with a €3.3 million investment for contributing to this recognition.
The island’s Tourism Councillor, María Isabel Méndez, emphasized that this nomination would significantly promote La Gomera as a destination both nationally and internationally, particularly in the lead-up to the Fitur International Tourism Fair. The recognition will culminate with the publication of the February print edition of Viajes National Geographic, showcasing La Gomera’s unique qualities in great detail through the magazine’s communication channels.
Voting for the awards began this week and will continue until February 11th. The voting process is accessible on the Viajes National Geographic website and social media profiles. The finalists all share a commitment to innovation and sustainability across various aspects.
