Property transactions in the Canary Islands increase in November despite ongoing decline

In November, property sales in the Canary Islands dropped by 18.93% compared to the same month last year, against a national decrease of 15.13%, totalling 1,795 transactions.

In November, the Canary Islands experienced an 18.93% decrease in home sales and purchases compared to the same month in the previous year, a decline steeper than the national average of 15.13%, resulting in a total of 1,795 transactions. However, this represents a slight improvement from the month prior, with an increase of 1.59 percentage points, as reported by the National Statistics Institute (INE).


Out of the total transactions in November within the islands, 1,728 involved freehold properties, while 67 were for officially protected homes. Breaking down the sales by property age, 451 were new homes, and 1,344 were second-hand.

The month saw a comprehensive total of 3,095 dwelling transactions, which, beyond the 1,795 sales, included 569 inheritances, 91 gifts, and six swaps.

Overall, the Canary Islands witnessed the transfer of 5,120 urban properties in November, encompassing 2,938 sales, 897 inheritances, 147 donations, 12 exchanges, and 1,126 transactions of other varieties.

There were also 853 transactions involving rural properties, with 252 inheritances, 381 sales, 43 donations, one exchange, and 176 transactions of other kinds.

Regionally, Asturias led with the most significant year-on-year growth in November, recording a 6.58% increase, followed by Cantabria with a 5.07% rise, and Castilla – La Mancha with a 2.62% increase. In contrast, the regions of Extremadura, La Rioja, and Madrid faced the steepest declines, with drops of 34.53%, 28.26%, and 25.72% respectively.
