Canary Islands: warning for wind and wave risks on Tuesday

Rain is anticipated across all islands.

This Tuesday, all the Canary Islands are on alert with a yellow warning for winds reaching up to 80 km/h. The situation escalates in La Palma, particularly around El Paso, where intense trade winds are forecast to hit speeds of up to 90 km/h, leading to an orange warning for significant risk.

Additionally, the archipelago faces threats from high seas, with waves predicted to surge between four and six metres due to combined north-easterly winds blowing at 50 to 61 km/h (force 7).

In response to these conditions, the Directorate General for Emergencies has issued a wind alert for specific areas: the summits of La Palma, high regions as well as the west and south of La Gomera, and elevated, western, and southwestern parts of El Hierro.

While light to moderate rain is expected in the early part of the day across the islands, Lanzarote and Fuerteventura are likely to remain dry.
