Light showers expected: updated weather forecast for the Canary Islands

With light rain in sight, maximum temperatures in the Canary Islands could begin to rise.

Today’s weather forecast suggests that the northern parts of the Canary Islands will experience predominantly cloudy skies with a slight chance of occasional light drizzle in the central areas early in the day, followed by significant clearings in the afternoon. The remaining areas will see partly cloudy to clear skies, with cloudy intervals in the morning, as reported by the State Meteorological Agency (Aemet).

Minimum temperatures are expected to remain stable while maximum temperatures may hold steady or experience a slight increase, particularly more so in the inland regions. Temperature readings will vary, with highs reaching up to 22 degrees Celsius in Tenerife, La Palma, and La Gomera, and lows dropping to 12 degrees Celsius in El Hierro.

Moderate to strong trade winds are anticipated, with potential for very strong gusts affecting the peaks and the southeast and northwest slopes of the higher islands.

In the north and northeast of Gran Canaria, expect cloudy skies with a low chance of light drizzle in central areas at the start of the day, leading to broad clearings in the afternoon. The other regions will mostly be clear or have little cloudiness, with intervals of clouds in the early morning and late hours. Lanzarote and Fuerteventura will experience partly cloudy to clear skies, with intermittent clouds along the coastal areas during the early morning and late afternoon.

Temperature changes will be minimal, except for slight drops in the minimum temperatures and increases in the maximum temperatures on the inland southern slopes. In Las Palmas de Gran Canaria, temperatures will fluctuate between a maximum of 22ºC and a minimum of 18ºC.

Wind conditions will include a moderate to strong trade wind with very strong gusts possible on the southeast and northwest slopes, exposed summits, and in the Tejeda basin. The wind intensity is expected to decrease by the end of the day, with breezes likely along the southwest coasts.
