This Friday, March 1st, the Canary Islands will be under alert for coastal phenomena and wind gusts reaching up to 80 kilometres per hour, as per the forecast by the State Meteorological Agency (Aemet).
Cloudy skies with rainfall are expected today, primarily affecting the northern regions of the mountainous islands, with possible persistent rainfall in the midlands. In other areas, there will be intervals of cloudiness with a low chance of light and occasional showers.
Temperatures will experience a slight decrease, with coastal areas seeing a mild decline and more moderate decreases in the midlands and high-altitude regions. Thermometers are expected to range from a maximum of 22 degrees Celsius in Santa Cruz de Tenerife to a minimum of 13 degrees Celsius in Valverde.

Throughout the day, intervals of strong winds with very intense gusts are anticipated, primarily from the trade winds. Gran Canaria, La Palma, La Gomera, and Tenerife will be under a warning for strong gusts of wind, while coastal phenomena alerts will be active in Tenerife and Lanzarote.
Forecast for each affected island:
- Tenerife: Maximum gusts of 70 km/h with intense trade winds, particularly affecting low-lying areas in the southeast and the Teno massif. The yellow warning will be in effect from 09:00 to 20:59 hours. Additionally, a north-easterly wind of 50 to 61 km/h (force 7) is expected in the Anaga-Agaete channel and offshore in the southeast of Tenerife from 12:00 to 23:59 hours.
- La Palma: Maximum gusts of 80 km/h, with intense trade winds especially affecting the area of El Paso. The yellow warning will be extended until 14:59 hours.
- La Gomera: Maximum gusts of 80 km/h, with intense trade winds particularly impacting summits and southeastern and northwestern slopes until 23:59 hours.
- Gran Canaria: A yellow warning for maximum gusts of 70 km/h on the island’s summits from 21:00 to 23:59 hours.
- Lanzarote: From 09:00 to 23:59 hours, combined northeast swell with waves of 4 to 5 meters will be present.
