The 20A demonstration, replicated across six islands where thousands of islanders will call for a change in the economic model of the archipelago, will also have a counterpart in London. This is according to the Instagram profile canariosenuk, which has issued a call to action for those unable to attend the demonstrations in the Canary Islands.
“Canarians in London, if you can’t make it to the Islands for 20A, I encourage you to join us at this event. We have a Telegram group where we’re coordinating everything,” the profile states. “Particularly in London, we can make a significant impact by conveying our reality and our voices directly, without the distortion of sensationalism or tourism-phobia,” it continues.
Should it proceed, the London replication of the 20A demonstration will take place at the iconic London Eye. Here, participants will advocate for stronger institutional engagement in conserving natural spaces and implementing eco-taxes, a moratorium on tourism and holiday developments on the archipelago, as well as regulations on foreign property purchases.
