After experiencing several days with temperatures above normal for this season, the Canary Islands are set to see a change in weather starting today, according to forecasts from the State Meteorological Agency (Aemet). There will be a noticeable drop in maximum temperatures and light rain is possible, conditions that may continue throughout the weekend.
Today’s weather is expected to feature periods of high cloud cover generally, with intervals of low cloud on the northern slopes of the islands. In the afternoon, the southern slopes of Tenerife and the midlands of La Palma might experience developing cloud intervals where weak and scattered rainfall is a possibility.
Temperatures are predicted to decrease slightly, with a more noticeable drop in maximum temperatures, especially in the midlands and higher elevations, ranging from a high of 25 degrees Celsius to a low of 18 degrees.
The wind will generally blow from the north, varying from light to moderate strength. At higher elevations, the wind will be moderately strong from the west.
In Gran Canaria, expect intervals of high clouds along with periods of low clouds on the northern slopes. The southern slopes might see developing clouds in the afternoon, where light, scattered, and occasional rainfall is also possible. Lanzarote and Fuerteventura will experience periods of high clouds, interspersed with some low cloud intervals.
Maximum temperatures will see a slight reduction, particularly in the midlands and summits, while minimum temperatures will also slightly decrease, with Las Palmas de Gran Canaria expecting temperatures between a maximum of 25ºC and a minimum of 20ºC.
Winds will be predominantly light from the north, with periods of stronger intensity. At the summits, expect moderate westerly winds, and breezes will be present on the south coast.
