In La Laguna, new parking facilities are being developed as part of the city management’s goal to increase parking availability, a response to the “numerous requests” from residents.
The La Laguna City Council, via its Department of Works and Infrastructures, is currently rehabilitating a disused site in the El Cardonal and Los Andenes area for this purpose. The planned car park is set to accommodate approximately one hundred vehicles, and will also feature a garden area nearby, enhancing the local environment.
Mayor Luis Yeray Gutiérrez commented, “Since the last term, there has been a strong public demand for more parking spaces. From the start of our current term, we have been committed to identifying and refurbishing areas to meet this need, thereby improving the daily quality of life for our citizens.”
Additionally, Mayor Gutiérrez noted that the project will extend beyond just parking improvements. “The plan includes expanding the pavements near the CEIP Cardonal I school, which will enhance safety for schoolchildren, families, and local residents,” he stated.
Councillor for Works, Ángel Chinea, further detailed that the construction efforts will involve safety measures such as building a perimeter wall to prevent potential landslides. Chinea also highlighted the comprehensive redesign of the parking facilities on Avenida de Vallehermoso, which will introduce a new parking area adjacent to a school. This addition is designed to facilitate a ‘Kiss and Ride’ zone that will alleviate traffic congestion during school drop-off and pick-up times.
