Rain expected across the Canary Islands

Temperatures in the Canary Islands are expected to experience few changes.

The State Meteorological Agency (Aemet) forecasts for May 2, 2024, in the Canary Islands, show cloudy intervals on the larger islands with predominantly cloudy skies in the early morning. There is a chance of weak and occasional showers during the first half of the day.


In Lanzarote and Fuerteventura, expect cloudy intervals clearing to partly cloudy skies by morning. The other areas will generally experience light cloud cover.

Temperature changes will be minimal across the islands. Winds from the northeast will be moderate but can strengthen on the southeastern and northwestern slopes. At higher altitudes, expect light easterly winds.

Rain expected across the Canary Islands

Marine conditions will feature northeasterly winds at force 4 or 5, increasing locally to 6 on the southeast and west coasts with north swells of 1 to 2 metres. On the southwest coast, conditions will vary between force 2 and 3 with rough seas or swells. Occasional showers are expected in the north.

Island-specific forecast for Thursday:

Lanzarote: Cloudy intervals clearing to partly cloudy by morning. Temperature changes will be minimal. Winds will be moderate from the northeast with strong intervals.

Fuerteventura: Similar to Lanzarote, with partly cloudy skies expected by morning and moderate to strong northeasterly winds, especially on the western slopes and around the Jandía Peninsula.

Gran Canaria: Cloudy in the north, especially in the early morning, clearing slightly by midday with a chance of light showers in the first half of the day. Elsewhere, skies will be partly cloudy or clear. Winds will be moderate from the northeast, with strong gusts on the southeastern and northwestern slopes and the western tip.

Tenerife: Cloudy intervals in the north with early morning overcast conditions and possible light showers in the first half of the day, mainly in the northeast. Other areas will see partly cloudy skies with possible showers in the west. Temperatures will remain stable, except for a slight increase at the central peaks. Moderate northeasterly winds with strong intervals are expected on the southeastern slope and extreme northwest.

La Gomera: Similar conditions to Tenerife with early morning overcast and possible light showers. The remainder of the day will be partly cloudy, with temperatures stable. Winds from the northeast may intensify on the eastern and northwestern slopes.

La Palma: Expect cloudy intervals in the north and east with predominant overcast in the early morning and potential for light showers in the first half of the day. The remainder of the island will see partly cloudy skies. Winds will be moderate from the northeast with occasional strong gusts on the southeastern and northwestern slopes.

El Hierro: Cloudy intervals in the north with predominant early morning overcast and a chance of light showers before noon. Partly cloudy skies are expected elsewhere, with stable temperatures and moderate to strong northeasterly winds.
