The city of Santa Cruz de Tenerife is eagerly anticipating the Ball of Magos, a cornerstone event of the city’s founding celebrations. Set to take place tomorrow, May 2, 2024, the festivities will kick off at 21:00 in the area surrounding Calle La Noria, where thousands are expected to gather in traditional Canarian attire.
Preceding the main event, Mayor José Manuel Bermúdez will participate in a traditional floral offering to the Virgen de Candelaria at 20:00 at her monument. The event has generated significant interest, evidenced by the rapid reservation of 700 tables for the dance within just 15 minutes.
The night promises a traditional Canarian dinner and a variety of musical performances, including a verbena and environmental awareness initiatives. Access to the event is free, with entry through one of 10 checkpoints where traditional dress and footwear will be verified.
Musical festivities will start at 22:00 in the Campo Castro area with performances by six parrandas including Tonique, Nijota, and Farutes del Atlántico. The Plaza de Europa will host Ball of Taifa featuring groups like Orígenes and Aceviños. The night will continue with performances on the Charco de la Casona stage near Puente del Cabo, featuring Orquesta Revelación, Orquesta Generasión Tenerife, and Pepe Benavente.
Public transport adjustments include MetroTenerife’s Line 1 tram service ending at 00:00 with Teatro Guimerá as the last stop, bypassing Fundación and Intercambiador stops from 19:00 on May 2. Additionally, several bus routes by Transportes Interurbanos de Tenerife (Titsa) will be diverted, affecting stops along their usual routes.
ENVIRONMENTAL AWARENESS-RAISING AT THE SANTA CRUZ BALL OF MAGOS
Environmental awareness will be a key focus during the event, with the Sustainable Santa Cruz Foundation leading a campaign to promote waste reduction and proper separation at the festivities. Environmental educators and actors will be stationed at entrances and roaming the event to educate attendees on environmental responsibility.
This year’s Ball of Magos promises a night of cultural celebration, community engagement, and environmental consciousness, set against the backdrop of Santa Cruz’s vibrant urban scene.
