A study conducted by Facua-Consumers in Action reveals that Santa Cruz de Tenerife is among the Spanish cities with the most significant increases in urban taxi fares over the past year. According to the report, all applicable fare components in the capital of Tenerife have surged by approximately 22%.
Facua’s study simulated nine different routes in each city, using official data based on the 2024 fare rates. The evaluation included the price of a one-kilometre route (or the minimum fare in each city), a five-kilometre route, and a ten-kilometre route, during the day, at night, and on weekends.
The report highlights that 35 out of the 57 cities analyzed have increased taxi fares compared to the previous year. Santa Cruz de Tenerife experienced the highest rise, with an overall increase of 22.9% across the three routes analyzed. Pamplona followed with a 9.5% increase, and Cádiz and Vitoria each saw a 7.5% rise.
Santa Cruz de Tenerife also recorded the highest increase in the minimum fare price this year, with a 22.2% hike during daytime hours. Valencia followed with a 10.0% increase, Cádiz with 7.7%, and Girona with 6.1%. Additionally, the average price per kilometre (or equivalent waiting time) in Santa Cruz de Tenerife is now 1.55 euros.
In contrast, Las Palmas de Gran Canaria and Ceuta are noted for having the lowest taxi fares in the study.
