Tenerife is gearing up for a weekend full of tradition and folklore with four pilgrimages and a a dance of ‘magos’ scheduled for the last weekend of May. These festivities, celebrated with typical costumes and traditional music, will take place in different municipalities of the island, offering locals and visitors an authentic sample of Canarian culture.


Saturday, 25th May

Tenerife dresses up: pilgrimages and magos dances for the last weekend of May

Los Silos Ball of Magos

  • Time: From 21:00
  • Location: Back of the Exconvento de San Sebastián
  • Details: The Baile de Magos will feature performances by the orchestras Sabrosa and Guaracha, with the participation of La Guanchería.

Sunday, 26th May

Pilgrimage of Las Mercedes – La Laguna

  • Time: Starts at 13:00
  • Location: From the public school of Las Mercedes to the town square
  • Details: The big party will start at 17:00 with performances by the orchestras Nueva Línea and Atenia.

Pilgrimage of San Isidro Labrador and Santa María de La Cabeza, Araya – Candelaria

  • Time:
  • 07:00: Traditional public address system in the village
  • 09:00: Departure of the images of San Isidro Labrador and Santa María de la Cabeza from the chapel
  • 12:00: Children’s performance by Güicho with his show “El tambor de las islas”
  • 13:00: Eucharist in honour of the patron saints, enlivened by the Agrupación Folklorica Los Brezos
  • 15:00: Music and dance performances by Dúo Canarias, Dúo Guarapo, and Teresita, vocalist of Los Bajip
  • Details: The pilgrimage and procession of the images will be accompanied by the Danza de Cintas de San Pedro Abajo de Güímar.

Pilgrimage of San Isidro Labrador and Santa María de la Cabeza – Los Realejos

  • Time:
  • 12:00: Eucharist ‘Misa Canaria’ by Tigaray
  • 18:00: Entry of the saints into the Parroquia Matriz del Apóstol Santiago, accompanied by chácaras, whistles, and drums of the Agrupación Folclórica Sabinosa de El Hierro
  • Details: After the pilgrimage, two musical stages in Plaza Viera y Clavijo and Calle Doctor González will host performances. The first stage will feature orchestras Malibú, Maquinaria Band, and Grupo LD, while the second will feature the musical duo AM En Clave.
