Santa Ursula has recorded the lowest unemployment rate in the past five years, as reported by the Canary Islands Employment Observatory (Obecan) for May. The municipality witnessed a 5.7% decrease in unemployment compared to the same period in 2023.
According to the local government agency AISU, unemployment rates have declined across all educational categories of job seekers. Notably, unemployment among those with primary education dropped by 7.4%.

Individuals with secondary education saw a decrease of 1.6%, while those with university degrees and vocational training certificates experienced significant reductions of 11.4% and 9.9%, respectively. “This ensures that no segments of the population are marginalized in terms of job opportunities,” stated Juan Acosta, the mayor of the municipality.
Marina Lorenzo, the councillor for Employment and Local Development, highlighted that in recent years, the council has initiated various social and labor integration projects. They have also launched training programs that combine education with employment and other initiatives aimed at enhancing employability for all community sectors, particularly those facing greater challenges in entering the job market.

Moreover, unemployment among women has continued to decrease for the fifth consecutive month, showing an 8.6% drop compared to the previous year. Long-term unemployment also saw a reduction of 4.96% over the same period. These figures underscore the ongoing efforts and strategies employed by the local government to bolster employment across the municipality.
