The municipal council of La Frontera on the island of El Hierro has unveiled plans for a comprehensive renovation of La Maceta, one of the Canary Islands’ prime bathing locations, enhancing it with new facilities including a larger swimming pool.

Located on El Hierro, La Maceta is poised for a significant makeover to bolster its reputation as one of the top seaside spots in the Canary Islands. The Frontera Town Council has detailed plans for a comprehensive overhaul, which encompasses not only the enhancement of existing natural pools but also the addition of a new swimming pool, set to expand the aquatic enjoyment for visitors.

The project, budgeted at €495,303, is scheduled to commence in September and is expected to take seven months to complete. This timing is strategically chosen to coincide with favorable weather and tidal conditions, ensuring minimal disruption to visitors. The funding for this initiative comes from the European Union’s Next Generation funds, reflecting a significant investment in enhancing local infrastructure for recreation and tourism.

The new pool will span approximately 785.43 square meters, surpassing the size of the current main pool, which measures 724.30 square meters, with a maximum length of 39.81 meters. This expansion is designed to accommodate more visitors and provide a more spacious swimming experience.

Beyond the pool itself, the renovation will also see upgrades to the surrounding amenities. The picnic area’s roofing and the barbecue grills will be replaced, and new tables will be installed. Additional refurbishments will include masonry and painting enhancements to beautify the seating areas, along with a renewal of the sand floors in the picnic zones. To round off the upgrades, energy-efficient lighting will be installed, along with lighting designed to protect the night sky, ensuring that La Maceta remains a delightful spot for evening gatherings.

This extensive renovation aims to not only improve the aesthetics and functionality of La Maceta but also to ensure it continues to be a beloved destination for both locals and tourists seeking to enjoy the natural beauty and recreational opportunities of El Hierro.
