The Island Council of Tenerife is tackling the persistent problem of traffic jams on the TF-5 with a futuristic solution. Rosa Dávila, the president of the Island Council, announced today the launch of an international competition to design an innovative train system for the north of the island, aiming to transform local transportation.
During her address in the ‘State of the Island Debate’, Dávila emphasized the need for big, forward-thinking solutions that prioritize efficiency, sustainability, and environmental consciousness. She highlighted the exploration of advanced transportation technologies such as elevated trains and suspended monorails, similar to systems already successful in Japan and China.
Dávila stressed the importance of integrating these new infrastructures without further consuming the island’s territory. She pointed out that elevated transport systems could blend more seamlessly with Tenerife’s landscape, minimizing environmental disruption and enhancing overall mobility efficiency.
Moreover, Dávila called for a unified approach to address the island’s transportation challenges, proposing a “Great Pact for Mobility in Tenerife” that seeks to garner consensus and cooperation across all political and social spectrums on the island. “On this important issue, we can and must all make a contribution,” she stated, emphasizing the collective effort needed to bring about significant change in Tenerife’s transport infrastructure.
