The usual seasonal morning fog at Tenerife Norte-Ciudad de La Laguna Airport caused significant disruptions this morning, including flight delays, diversions, and cancellations. Dense fog resulted in low visibility, leading to the diversion of at least five flights to Tenerife South-Reina Sofia Airport. According to Televisión Canaria, the affected flights included three from Madrid, one from Alicante, and one from Gran Canaria.
Aena, the airport operator, noted that the delays did not exceed two hours and anticipated a return to normal operations throughout the day. Passengers have been advised to stay updated on their flight status via their airlines and official channels.
Controlares Aéreos reported that visibility was reduced to just 400 meters, limiting the apron to only one simultaneous movement and significantly reducing operational capacity.
Local airline Binter cautioned about adverse weather conditions impacting flight schedules, including possible further delays, cancellations, and diversions.
Despite such incidents being common during this season at Tenerife Norte, efforts are underway to minimize the impact, with expectations for operations to resume “practically” normally by this afternoon.
