Access to Benijo beach in Tenerife has been temporarily restricted following a series of minor landslides over recent weeks. The local government of Santa Cruz de Tenerife has initiated this closure as a safety precaution, responding to incidents of falling debris reported by rescue and lifeguard teams, indicating potential instability in the cliff areas above the beach.
In response to these safety concerns, the city council has commissioned technical assessments to thoroughly evaluate the risk posed by the unstable slopes. These assessments are part of an urgent review by the council to develop and implement measures to address and mitigate the risk effectively.
As an immediate safety measure, the situation at the beach will be closely monitored, and warning signs will be installed at all beach access points to inform and caution visitors about the current risks. Additionally, security and emergency personnel stationed in the Anaga massif will actively communicate with the public, reinforcing the need for vigilance and caution to prevent any unnecessary risks.
The closure reflects the council’s commitment to public safety, emphasizing that, although the landslides have not caused significant damage so far, the potential for more severe incidents requires serious and immediate attention.
