Binter embraces Canary Islands flavours on its flights: Gofio and mojo among featured dishes

Binter introduces new gourmet menus featuring Canarian flavours and sustainable practices on its flights.

From 1 August 2024, Binter has introduced new gourmet menus titled ‘More Canarian and Sustainable’, available to passengers on its domestic and international routes. These menus highlight the rich culinary heritage of the Canary Islands with dishes named after iconic locations like Taganana, Cañadas del Teide, and Los Gigantes.

The unveiling event, hosted by food journalist José Luis Reina at the Rooftop Catalina Plaza Hotel Sostenible, showcased Binter’s new culinary offerings. Attendees sampled three new gourmet snacks, diverse breakfast options, and a special children’s menu called BinterPeques.

A Taste of the Canary Islands

Binter’s new gastronomic experience is meticulously designed to bring passengers closer to authentic Canary Islands flavours. Prioritizing local ingredients, the menus feature traditional products and dishes such as escaldón, mojo, plantain, sweet potato, and gofio. The new complimentary appetizers include a selection of Canarian cheeses, notably the award-winning goat cheeses from El Tofio (Maxorata), served with almonds, sultanas, dried apricots, or dates, depending on the season.

The BinterPeques menu offers four varieties, incorporating fresh fruit and new hot dishes. Additionally, Binter plans to introduce vegetarian and gluten-free menus by the end of the year, catering to passengers with specific dietary needs or preferences.

Commitment to Sustainability

Aligning with its environmental care policy, Binter has revamped its packaging to minimize plastic use. Sustainable materials such as wooden cutlery, sugar cane bowls, lighter sausage packaging, and compostable containers have replaced traditional packaging, improving waste management. These changes are expected to reduce waste by approximately 15 tonnes annually, or more than 1 tonne per month, and decrease the weight carried on board.

Advantages of Flying the Canarian Mode

Binter’s gourmet menu service exemplifies its commitment to the Canarian way of travelling, focusing on customer satisfaction and enhancing the travel experience. This premium service differentiates Binter from other airlines operating in the Canary Islands, setting a benchmark for quality and service both nationally and internationally.

Passengers on Binter flights benefit from the comfort of its modern fleet, featuring a two-seat-per-row configuration with no middle seat and ample space between rows, measuring 79 centimetres. The airline also provides an in-flight entertainment service with the latest releases.

Binter includes cabin hand luggage in all fares and offers free connecting flights to other Canary Islands airports on domestic and international routes, thanks to its average of 230 daily flights within the archipelago. Furthermore, fares like Flexiplus offer significant advantages, allowing passengers to reschedule flights on the same day at no additional cost.

With this initiative, Binter reaffirms its dedication to sustainability and local gastronomy, offering passengers a unique and environmentally friendly culinary experience.
