Intense heat returns to the Canary Islands, with temperatures reaching up to 34°C

Las Palmas province braces for the hottest temperatures once again, with intense heat returning to the Canary Islands.

The Canary Islands are set to experience another wave of intense heat, with temperatures expected to soar above 40°C today, continuing into the start of next week. The rising heat will be most acutely felt in the province of Las Palmas, particularly over the weekend, where the thermometers are predicted to peak.

The State Meteorological Agency (Aemet) has indicated that this increase in temperatures will be noticeable from today, especially in the midlands and higher elevations, where the heat will intensify. The rest of the islands will experience partly cloudy or clear skies, with some cloudy intervals in the north. Temperatures will range from a maximum of 29°C in Santa Cruz de Tenerife to a minimum of 17°C in Valverde.

A moderate trade wind is expected, with strong intervals on the southeast and extreme northwest slopes, while breezes will prevail along the southwest coasts. On the central summits, a generally light, variable wind with a predominant easterly component will be observed.

In the province of Las Palmas, particularly in the lower northern areas of Gran Canaria, there will be cloudy intervals, with predominantly overcast skies in the early hours. The rest of the region will experience mostly clear or slightly cloudy conditions. Lanzarote and Fuerteventura will see partly cloudy or clear skies with some morning cloud cover.

While temperatures across the province are expected to remain relatively stable, slight to moderate increases are anticipated in the southern and western-facing summits and midlands, where maximum temperatures could locally reach or exceed 32°C to 34°C. In Las Palmas de Gran Canaria, the maximum temperature is expected to range between 27°C and 22°C.

The trade wind will continue to be moderate, with intervals of strong gusts, particularly on the southeast and northwest slopes, where occasional very strong gusts are possible. Breezes will dominate the southwest coasts, and on the summits, the wind will be light from the northwest in the morning, increasing to moderate by the afternoon.
