Weather and health warnings in the Canary Islands: Temperatures nearing 40 degrees

Aemet has issued weather warnings for the Canary Islands as temperatures are expected to reach near 40 degrees, urging precautions due to extreme heat.

The State Meteorological Agency (Aemet) has issued a yellow alert for high temperatures expected this Saturday across the Canary Islands, with predictions of temperatures reaching up to 37 degrees Celsius.

The alert primarily affects the summit regions and the southern areas of Gran Canaria. Forecasts suggest that the Tejeda basin and the midlands facing west, south, and southeast could experience maximum temperatures of 36ºC, with some localized areas potentially surpassing 37ºC.

This rise in temperatures is part of a broader heat wave impacting much of Spain, which is expected to peak over the weekend. As a result, most of the country is under yellow or orange alerts, with temperatures potentially exceeding 40ºC in several regions.
