The Canary Islands have been placed on alert for strong winds, with gusts expected to reach or exceed 70 kilometers per hour in certain areas. The Directorate General for Emergencies of the Canary Islands Government issued the pre-alert based on forecasts from the State Meteorological Agency (AEMET) and other sources.
This decision follows the guidelines of the Specific Emergency Plan of the Canary Islands for Adverse Weather Phenomenon Risks (PFMA), as outlined in Decree 18/2014.

The pre-alert, which comes into effect at 22:00 on Tuesday, 13 August, has been declared due to anticipated moderate northeasterly winds with locally strong intervals and very strong gusts. These winds are expected to impact the southeast, west, and northwest slopes of the islands with the most significant relief.
The areas most likely to be affected include El Paso on La Palma, as well as the summit and high regions in the south of La Gomera and Gran Canaria. Additionally, the Jandía peninsula in Fuerteventura and the southeast of Lanzarote are also expected to experience these strong winds.

In light of these conditions, the regional government urges residents and visitors to adhere to self-protection advice provided by the Directorate General for Emergencies to ensure safety during this period of increased wind activity.
