The Canary Islands are bracing for strong winds this Thursday, with the State Meteorological Agency (AEMET) forecasting very strong gusts of up to 70 kilometers per hour in several areas. A dozen provinces, including two in the Canary Islands, will be under a wind warning.
The AEMET predicts that these powerful gusts will be felt particularly in low-lying areas in the southeast of Gran Canaria, and early in the day in the southeast of La Gomera. Additionally, the northwest tip and southeast coast of Tenerife, the summits of Gran Canaria, and the El Paso area on La Palma are also expected to experience these winds.
The weather across the islands will be characterized by cloudy conditions in the north, with some clearing during the central hours of the day and occasional drizzle in the early morning. In other areas, the skies will be lightly cloudy or clear.
Temperatures are expected to remain stable in the northeast of the islands, while they will decrease slightly to moderately in other regions, especially in southern Tenerife and Gran Canaria.
Moderate northeasterly winds are anticipated, with intervals of strong winds in low-lying areas in the southeast and northwest of the mountainous islands, as well as inland Lanzarote. Very strong gusts, reaching up to 70 km/h, are particularly expected in the southeast of Gran Canaria, early in the day in the southeast of La Gomera, the northwest tip and southeast coast of Tenerife, the summits of Gran Canaria, and the El Paso area on La Palma.
At sea, the west and southeast coasts will experience a northerly or northeasterly wind, with a strength of force 6 or 7. Elsewhere, winds from the north or northeast will be at a strength of force 4 or 5, with a north swell of 1 to 2 meters. The southwest coast will see variable winds at force 2 to 4 and swell.
