The University of La Laguna (ULL) has achieved a significant milestone by being ranked between 501 and 600 in the 2024 edition of the prestigious Shanghai Ranking, also known as the Academic Ranking of World Universities (ARWU). This marks the highest ranking ever attained by the University of Tenerife since the list began 22 years ago. In previous editions, the ULL was ranked between 701 and 800.
The university’s impressive leap of 200 positions reflects the dedication and hard work of its faculty, research institutes, and teams. The ULL acknowledges this improvement as a testament to their continuous efforts and emphasizes the importance of maintaining this momentum in the future.
The Shanghai Ranking, compiled by the Center of World-Class Universities at Shanghai Jia Tong University, is one of the most globally recognized academic rankings. The evaluation criteria include the number of students and faculty with Nobel Prizes, the size of the institution, publications in prestigious journals such as Nature and Science, as well as the number of highly cited researchers and publications.
The University of La Laguna has excelled particularly in the research domain, earning high marks for its publications in Nature and Science, as well as for its contributions to the Web of Science and the presence of highly cited researchers.
Since 2019, the Shanghai Ranking has expanded to include the top 1,000 universities worldwide. In the latest edition, 36 Spanish universities are featured, with the ULL positioned among them in the 11th to 16th range. The ULL’s performance in research is especially commendable, as it ranks 4th nationally in terms of publications in Nature and Science.
This achievement highlights the University of La Laguna’s growing influence and recognition on the global academic stage, particularly in the field of research.
