Weather agency updates its forecast for the Canary Islands: Intense heat on the way

According to the latest weather forecast, temperatures in the Canary Islands could soar above 39 degrees Celsius.

The latest weather forecast from the State Meteorological Agency (Aemet) indicates a significant rise in temperatures across the Canary Islands, with intense heat expected tomorrow. In the province of Santa Cruz de Tenerife, the forecast for Sunday suggests cloudy intervals in the north, below 600 to 700 metres, which will give way to light clouds in the morning, returning to cloudy intervals later in the evening in the northeast.

The rest of the day will be partly cloudy or clear, with morning cloud cover along the southern coasts and a high-altitude haze developing later in the day, particularly affecting the midlands and summits exposed to the south.

Temperatures will generally remain stable, with slight increases expected in the midlands and summits, particularly on the southern and western slopes. Minimum temperatures in these areas could stay above 26ºC, with maximums reaching up to 34ºC. In Tenerife, temperatures will range from a high of 31ºC to a low of 18ºC in El Hierro.

The wind will blow moderately from the northeast, with stronger gusts expected on the southeastern slopes and the Teno massif. Locally very strong gusts are possible, especially in the afternoon. In the high peaks, expect moderate easterly winds shifting to southeasterly, with intervals of strong winds, and breezes along the southern and western coasts.

In Gran Canaria, areas below 500 to 600 metres in the north will see cloudy intervals that will clear up in the morning but return in the evening. The rest of the island will experience light clouds or clear skies, with haze moving in at higher altitudes, particularly affecting the midlands on the southern slopes.

For Lanzarote and Fuerteventura, expect intervals of low clouds in the west, clearing up during the day, with high-altitude haze gradually moving in.

Temperatures will remain relatively stable, with slight increases expected in the midlands and summits. In the midlands facing west, south, and southeast, temperatures could exceed 34ºC, with the Tejeda and Tirajana basins potentially seeing highs above 39ºC. Night-time temperatures are likely to stay above 26ºC. In Las Palmas de Gran Canaria, expect temperatures to range between 26ºC and 23ºC.

Winds will be moderate from the north, intensifying throughout the day in low-lying areas and on the southeast and west coasts, where locally very strong gusts are possible. On the summits, moderate southerly winds will prevail, with breezes on the south coast.
