The Canary Islands are facing a week of unusual and potentially severe weather conditions, with forecasts indicating a mix of storms, haze, and rising temperatures. According to the State Meteorological Agency (Aemet), the northern coastal areas of Santa Cruz de Tenerife will experience cloudy intervals, while the rest of the island can expect mostly clear skies with occasional medium clouds.
There is a low probability of isolated showers in the interior regions, and haze is likely to be significant, particularly in the midlands and summits.
Temperatures are expected to rise, particularly on the northern and western slopes, where they could exceed 34ºC, with a slight drop in temperatures expected on the eastern side. The maximum temperature in Tenerife is predicted to reach 32ºC, while the minimum could drop to 18ºC in El Hierro.
Strong trade winds with occasional very strong gusts are also forecasted, particularly on the southeast coast and in the extreme northwest, with breezes expected along the southwest coasts.
In Gran Canaria, the forecast suggests cloudy intervals in the north and mostly clear skies elsewhere, with a chance of isolated showers in the interior and significant haze in the midlands and summits. Lanzarote and Fuerteventura will experience partly cloudy conditions with intervals of medium clouds.
Temperatures are generally expected to rise across the islands, with significant increases in the southern regions, where values could exceed 37ºC in the midlands on the southern slope.
The combination of these factors—rising temperatures, strong winds, and haze—presents a challenging weather scenario for the Canary Islands in the coming days. Authorities advise residents and visitors to stay informed and take necessary precautions, particularly in areas prone to higher temperatures and strong winds.
