The Canary Islands are expected to experience a significant weather shift this weekend, according to the latest forecast from the State Meteorological Agency (Aemet). The trade winds, a defining feature of the islands’ climate, are predicted to intensify and bring notable changes in weather conditions.
Weather Forecast for the Coming Days:
Tomorrow, the northern and northeastern regions of the Canary Islands will see predominantly cloudy skies, with some breaks in the cloud cover during the middle of the day, especially in northern areas. There is a chance of occasional light rain, particularly later in the day. The rest of the islands will have partly cloudy to clear skies.
Temperatures are expected to remain fairly stable along the coasts, with slight decreases inland. Lanzarote and Fuerteventura are the exceptions, where maximum temperatures may see a slight rise. The forecast indicates that temperatures will range from a high of 30°C in Tenerife to a low of 19°C on El Hierro.
Wind and Sea Conditions:
Winds will blow moderately from the northeast, with stronger gusts expected in the southeast and far west of the islands, as well as on the peaks of the mountainous regions. In these areas, gusts could occasionally reach very strong levels, with wind speeds potentially exceeding 70 kilometers per hour.
Marine conditions will also be affected by the strong trade winds. Winds at sea are expected to blow from the northeast at force 4 or 5, occasionally increasing to force 6 or even 7 in the central islands. This will likely result in moderate to heavy seas along the eastern coasts, with the possibility of rough conditions further offshore, and a northward swell of 1 to 2 meters in height.
Overall, residents and visitors to the Canary Islands should prepare for this weekend’s changing weather, characterized by strong winds, variable cloud cover, and occasional light rain.
