Aemet forecasts a cool, autumn-like weekend for the Canary Islands

The Canary Islands are set for cooler, autumn-like weather with temperatures dropping and occasional showers expected this weekend.

The State Meteorological Agency (Aemet) has predicted a cooler, more autumnal weather pattern across the Canary Islands for the upcoming weekend. On Friday, 30 August, weak and sporadic showers are expected, especially in the northeast regions and midlands during the early part of the day. There is also a chance of light, scattered rainfall in the western parts of the islands around midday.

The skies are predicted to be mostly cloudy in the northern areas of the islands with higher terrain, while the central peaks will enjoy clearer skies. The temperatures are forecasted to drop slightly in the inland areas of the western province, with daytime highs reaching around 28°C in Tenerife and dropping to a low of 16°C on El Hierro.

Wind and Sea Conditions this Weekend

Winds will predominantly blow from the northeast at moderate intensity, with stronger gusts expected on the southeastern slopes and the northwestern tip of the islands. Coastal areas, particularly in the southwest, will experience breezy conditions.

In terms of maritime conditions, winds are projected to come from the north or northeast at force 4 or 5, occasionally reaching force 6 around the central islands or offshore in the western province. Sea conditions will range from swells to strong swells in certain areas, accompanied by one-meter-high waves from the north and occasional showers along the northern coastlines.
