The Canary Islands are set to experience mild weather changes starting on Sunday, 1st September. According to the State Meteorological Agency (Aemet), the week will begin with cloudy skies in the northern parts of the islands, which will gradually clear up around midday. In other regions, expect generally clear or slightly cloudy skies.
Aemet forecasts a slight increase in daytime temperatures across most islands while nighttime temperatures may see a minor decrease.
Wind Conditions
Winds are expected to blow moderately from the northeast, becoming more intense on the southeastern and northwestern slopes, especially in the afternoon. Strong gusts may occasionally occur in these areas. At higher elevations, the wind will be generally light and from the northeast, with breezes developing along the southern and southwestern coasts.
Sea Conditions
At sea, northeasterly winds will prevail with force 4 or 5, occasionally reaching force 6 along the coasts of Tenerife and La Gomera. Swell or strong swells are likely in the southeastern and northwestern coastal regions, with waves reaching 1-2 meters in height in some areas.
Island-Specific Forecasts:
- Tenerife: Clear skies at the central peaks; cloudy intervals in the north with some clearing in the afternoon. Temperatures will slightly increase in the highlands. Breezy conditions are expected along the west coast.
- La Gomera: Cloudy skies predominantly in the north, with clear skies elsewhere. Breezes on the southwest coast, with moderate winds in the northwest and east.
- La Palma: Cloudy intervals with temperatures slightly dropping at the summits, but daytime highs may increase. Stronger gusts are possible in the southeast and northwest slopes.
- El Hierro: Mixed skies with some clouds in the north. A slight rise in maximum temperatures is expected inland.
- Gran Canaria: Similar weather with clear skies outside the northern region. Temperatures are expected to remain stable.
- Lanzarote and Fuerteventura: Predominantly clear skies, except for occasional cloudiness along the northern coasts. Temperatures will generally remain unchanged.
Residents and visitors are advised to be prepared for these mild changes in weather, especially those in higher elevations and coastal areas prone to gusty winds.
