The State Meteorological Agency (AEMET) has provided an updated weather forecast for the Canary Islands this weekend, predicting a predominantly stable weather outlook, with a few notable changes expected in temperatures and cloud cover.
Saturday Forecast:
On Saturday, the western islands, such as Tenerife and La Palma, will start the day with predominantly cloudy skies in their northern regions. This cloudiness is expected to clear up gradually throughout the morning. However, by the late afternoon, these areas may again experience some cloudy intervals. Lanzarote and Fuerteventura will also see a mix of clouds in the early morning, but larger clearings are anticipated as the day progresses into the afternoon, offering sunnier periods.
For the rest of the Canary Islands, skies are predicted to remain generally clear throughout the day, except for the southern parts of Tenerife, where some patchy clouds might be observed. Despite the overall stable weather pattern, a slight increase in temperatures is expected across the western islands, with values ranging between 22°C and 29°C. The eastern islands, including Lanzarote and Fuerteventura, will continue to experience moderate winds from the north.
In contrast, the western islands, like La Palma and El Hierro, will face winds primarily from the northeast. On the high summits, particularly in Tenerife, light winds from variable directions are expected, but these may intensify to strong gusts on the highest peaks.
Sunday Forecast:
The weather for Sunday brings a continuation of partly cloudy skies, especially in the north of the mountainous islands. These areas might witness low clouds and a small chance of light showers, particularly in the early morning hours. In the rest of the regions, there will be occasional cloudy intervals, except for Gran Canaria and Fuerteventura, where the skies are forecast to remain predominantly clear throughout the day.
The minimum temperatures across the islands are not expected to change significantly, maintaining a relatively mild range. However, maximum temperatures will also remain steady, with no major fluctuations anticipated. The wind will persist from the northeast at a moderate strength, with coastal breezes on the southwestern coasts and moderate southwesterly winds on the high peaks.
Sea Conditions:
Marine conditions around the archipelago will reflect the influence of the northeast winds, which are expected to blow at a force of 4 to 6 on the Beaufort scale, particularly along the coasts to the west of the islands and in the southeast. This will result in moderate to strong swells in these areas, with wave heights ranging between 1 to 2 metres, and potentially reaching up to 2 to 3 metres in certain exposed coastal locations.
Overall Outlook:
The weekend forecast for the Canary Islands suggests relatively calm and mild weather conditions, with slight temperature increases mainly in the western islands and occasional cloud cover that may bring brief, light showers. While the winds will remain moderate, areas at higher altitudes and specific coastal locations could experience stronger gusts. Residents and visitors are advised to remain aware of these conditions, especially if engaging in outdoor or marine activities, and to stay informed through local weather updates.
