The Government of the Canary Islands has approved the 2025 public holiday calendar for the entire archipelago. This calendar was established following a draft decree and gives local councils a month to decide on local holidays that are significant for their regions.

The following are the general public holidays applicable throughout the Canary Islands in 2025:

  1. 1 January: New Year’s Day
  2. 6 January: Epiphany of the Lord
  3. 17 April: Maundy Thursday
  4. 18 April: Good Friday
  5. 1 May: Labour Day
  6. 30 May: Canary Islands Day
  7. 15 August: Assumption of the Virgin
  8. 1 November: All Saints’ Day
  9. 6 December: Spanish Constitution Day
  10. 8 December: Immaculate Conception
  11. 25 December: Nativity of the Lord (Christmas Day)

Island-Specific Holidays:

Each island in the Canary archipelago will also celebrate specific holidays that are traditional and significant to them. These holidays include:

  • 3 February: Virgen de Candelaria (Tenerife)

The Canarian town councils now have one month from the publication of the decree in the Official Bulletin of the Canary Islands (BOC) to submit proposals for their local non-working holidays. These holidays are unpaid, non-recoverable, and are based on each municipality’s unique traditions.
