The weather forecast for the Canary Islands this Saturday indicates periods of high cloud cover, which will transition into more overcast skies in the interior and on the southern and eastern slopes of the western islands by the afternoon. There is a chance of light, occasional rain in these areas and in northern Gran Canaria towards the end of the day. In the afternoon, a light haze is expected to affect the easternmost islands at high altitudes, according to the State Meteorological Agency (AEMET).
Meanwhile, across mainland Spain, weather warnings for rain and storms have been issued for 28 provinces. Particularly, the provinces of Huesca (Aragon), Tarragona (Catalonia), Castellón and Valencia (Valencia), as well as the Balearic Islands, have been placed under an orange alert due to potentially significant rainfall and thunderstorms. Other provinces are under yellow warnings, indicating slightly less severe conditions.
This weather pattern is being influenced by a low-pressure system over the northwest of the peninsula, which will result in unstable weather conditions across much of mainland Spain and the Balearic Islands. This instability will lead to widespread showers and thunderstorms, potentially accompanied by hail, particularly in the eastern regions and Mediterranean areas. The heaviest downpours are expected along the coastlines of Tarragona, Castellón, and Valencia, as well as in the Balearic Islands.
The forecast also highlights persistent rain in the Pyrenees, and heavy rainfall is expected in parts of the Cantabrian region later in the day. In contrast, the southwestern quadrant of the peninsula and the western part of the northern plateau are expected to have fewer showers, with skies gradually clearing from the southwest to the northeast as the day progresses.
In terms of temperatures, the Balearic Islands and Catalonia will experience a rise, while temperatures in the Canary Islands are expected to remain stable. Most other regions will see a drop in temperatures. The highest temperatures will be observed in Cordoba and Palma (29°C), followed by Badajoz, Bilbao, Granada, Murcia, and Santa Cruz de Tenerife (27°C).
Wind patterns will vary, with light trade winds in the Canary Islands, westerly winds in Galicia and the Cantabrian Sea, and predominantly easterly and southeasterly winds in the Balearic Islands and the northeastern regions of the peninsula. Meanwhile, southerly and southwesterly winds will be prevalent in other areas, with westerly winds picking up in the Strait of Gibraltar as the day progresses.
