The new features of Las Teresitas beach’s transformation

Las Teresitas beach in Santa Cruz de Tenerife is set for a major transformation, with plans for a promenade, urban park, recreational areas, and a new hotel.

The iconic Las Teresitas beach in Santa Cruz de Tenerife is a step closer to its long-anticipated urban transformation. The City Council has taken a significant stride in advancing the beachfront development project, recently approving the initiation of procedures with the municipal Environmental Assessment Commission to modify the General Development Plan (PGOU).

This project, spearheaded by the Gerencia de Urbanismo and based on a report by Gestur, aims to enhance the beach’s public services by introducing a series of upgrades. Key features include the construction of a seaside promenade, an urban park, and recreational areas designed to accommodate moderate sports activities. Additionally, plans include building a hotel, which will serve as a new attraction for both tourists and locals, adding value to this beloved area.

Mayor José Manuel Bermúdez emphasised the importance of this development, stating, “We are closer to an initial approval of a fundamental document for the development of the beachfront.” He further highlighted the urgent need to provide essential infrastructure, such as proper sewerage and lighting, which residents and beachgoers have been requesting for many years.

Councillor for Urban Planning, Zaida González, assured that despite setbacks due to the fall of the previous General Plan, the Las Teresitas project has not been hindered. “We pledged that this situation would not paralyse important projects such as this one,” she stated, reaffirming the council’s dedication to progressing with the urban development of the beach.

The ultimate goal is to have a new plan in place before the end of the current term, allowing for the seamless integration of the sand and bathing areas with the newly developed recreational and service spaces, ensuring a cohesive and enhanced experience for visitors to Las Teresitas.
