Puertos Canarios is auctioning off eight boats from four ports in the Canary Islands – Corralejo, Gran Tarajal, Morro Jable on Fuerteventura, and Playa Blanca on Lanzarote – with starting bids as low as one euro cent. This initiative aligns with Puertos Canarios’ commitment to sustainability, aiming to free up pontoons by giving abandoned vessels a second chance, whether for repair, reuse, or scrapping.
Abandoned Vessels and Their Starting Prices
The process is legally permitted when owners are unable to maintain or renew their port permits, preventing pollution and maintaining cleaner marine environments. The boats up for auction offer a range of opportunities for those interested in repair, salvage, or even restoration:

- El Caribe and Jesús y David: Starting at just one euro cent each, available for repair or as spare parts.
- Aisaya and Martina IV: With starting bids of €400 and €900, respectively, these boats present affordable opportunities for enthusiasts.
- Gran Tarajal (Fuerteventura):
- El Scandalizer: A larger vessel, measuring nearly ten metres, has a starting bid of €15,000, offering a great chance for those looking to continue sailing.
- Corralejo (Fuerteventura):
- Gin Tonic Uno: This sailboat, ready for those who enjoy the trade winds, starts at €3,800, making it an accessible investment for sailing enthusiasts.
- Playa Blanca (Lanzarote):
- El Jimmy: Available from €2,000, this vessel is accompanied by the star of the auction:
- Ora et Labora: A well-maintained wooden sailing yacht over fifteen metres in length, priced at €130,000, ideal for those seeking an elegant vessel to sail the Atlantic.
Auction Process and Viewing Details
Puertos Canarios, which manages the 52 ports and maritime facilities in the Canary Islands under the Ministry of Public Works, Housing, and Mobility, is allowing public access to view these vessels until 18 October. Interested bidders must complete the necessary procedures, including submitting a 25% deposit of the boat’s value as a guarantee, along with a sealed bid in one of the two designated offices in the Canary Islands capitals:

- Las Palmas de Gran Canaria: C/ Luis Doreste Silva, 2, Mezzanine Floor Edificio Tamarco, CP 35004
The auction details, including the full terms for abandoned vessels, are available on puertoscanarios.es and in the Official Bulletin of the Canary Islands (number 175, dated 5 September 2024). The final auction results will be announced on 31 October.
By managing this auction, Puertos Canarios continues to promote sustainability and responsible management of maritime resources, ensuring these boats find new owners and purposes, rather than becoming environmental hazards in the Canary Islands’ beautiful ports.
